Chatni (is Hindi for chutney) is an original food from India. The purpose of a chatni is to surprise us, to stimulate the tongue, to bring delight to a meal and to make the meal many times more interesting. A chatni is both a condiment and a sauce, served in small amounts and eaten by itself. Chatnis not only vary in flavour but in texture as well. Some are smooth, others are full of texture and body.
• A wonderful sweet and sour dipping sauce with snacks, kebabs and entrees
• Works well as a condiment on crackers, hamburgers and hot chips, as a spicy spread on sandwiches and on the side with everyday food
• Fantastic spread on a pizza base combined with your favourite toppings
• May be used as a salad dressing
• Add zip to sauces, curries, and marinades
• As a topping on jacket potatoes
• Tamarind chatni can be added to cooking instead of lemon or lime juice
• Provide an excellent flavour to stir fry, rice dishes, vegetable dishes and soups
• Mix with yogurt or cream cheese to use as a dip
• Serve as accompaniment to Indian meals with rice dishes or Indian breads
• Use in cooking to create exotic soups, pasta and rice dishes
• Spread on a sandwich or pita bread and fill with your favourites like ham, chicken or veggies
• Use with most Western foods, hot and cold meats, stews and sausages
• Great with all roasted meats, fish and chicken, spread over cold cuts
• As a desert accompaniment – with cream or chocolate sauce
